Cleaning a bottling spigot

I have this spigot:

I ran hot tap over it for a while and pressed the red piece out pretty easily, but the two white pieces didn’t want to come apart. Is there a trick or do I just muscle them apart? Found out the hard way that just soaking the spigot after use does not get all the gunk out.

Try soaking in a PBW solution, It’s job is to break up any gunk that you can’t get to.
Open and close the tap a couple times, give it a good swim in the PBW.
Then give it a good rinse.
Before useing it soak it in starsan. Or just keep it in starsan.

You won’t have that much gunk if you rinse out your spigot right away after use.

the spigot should be able to disassemble. give it a good clean/soak and rinse. then sanitize before use

OK, I’ll try harder to pull the two round bits apart and really clean it. They’re so cheap, and I lost three batches due to the crudy old one, I plan on buying a new spigot every year.

I have 2 spigots that I swap after every brew. The old one comes off and goes inside the bucket to soak in PBW. The new one goes on the bucket to plug up the hole and is ready to use for the next brew. If you rinse/clean/soak right away the spigots stay pretty clean.
