Calculating steeping grain absorbtion

I’m sure I could find it somewhere but I’m looking to figure out how much water loss will occur with 17.4 oz of steeping grains. Is there a specific formula? I’m trying to figure out my normal pre boil volume or at least close to. I normally soak 1 pound/1 gallon of water in a separate kettle then add the grain tea into 2 more gallons of water.

Figure .1 to .2 gallons per pound. You can always make up your volume later in the process. For stepping grains, I’d consider it negligible. It comes into play more with all grain.

I know I’m trying to get a better picture of my pre volume boil so I can adjust it on beersmith because I can’t boil 3.67 gallons in my 4 gallon kettle like it estimates which changes the calculated IBUs. Ok so after some math and some smoke coming from my brain it is indeed negligible about 2 oz which is still pretty darn close to 3 gallons. Thanks for the info.
