Calculating Apparent attenuation?

Hello I know the equation is (1.050 – 1.010) ÷ (1.050 – 1) = 0.8 = 80% but my ? Is what with (1.050-1) I know 1.050-1.010 =40/50 give you 80% AA but where does the (1.050-1) come into the equation?

Essentially, that converts the equation from SG to points; it removes the “1” from the front of everything, and allows you to just go with (50 - 10) / 50 – but in a mathematically proper way.
