Brun Water Calculator Help

Hi I’m making a stout and using the Brun Water Calculator. I have my “Pale Mail Morris Otter” base malt entered and then I entered, Black Malt, Roasted Barley, and Chocolate Malt. So on these three do I select “Roasted Malt” on the drop down instead of “Base Malt”? When I enter these three as base malts the PH goes way down to 3.5. If I select Roasted Malt the PH is right on.

Thanks

Rick

roasted malts, base malt is for 2 row, pills, munich ect…

Thank You

If you leave the malt type as Base Malt when you have a dark roasted malt color entered, the acidity that the program calculates for the grain is actually much greater than for a typical roast grain. Malts and grains with color ratings above about 180L must be entered as a Roast Malt.

Thanks, I’ve done a lot of reading and searching for the different malts, I understand it better now all though I have a lot more to learn. Thanks for your help.
