Bourbon Barrel Porter One Gallon Malting and Adjunct Thoughts

I am getting ready to brew up a batch of the BBP One Gallon. The instructions “recommend” using .5 lb of the 1 lb. wheat dry malt extract. Would using the entire 1 lb. do much more than up the ABV a smidgen and give the brew a maltier finish? I was also wondering if anyone has tweaked the kit? I am thinking of adding cold brewed coffee and coca nibs to mimic Highland’s Thunderstruck.

I’d brew it as is if you haven’t brewed it just for a baseline. After that the sky’s the limit. Although if your going to tweak the recipe I would save some yeast and the extract and order ingredients ala carte and save some money
