Boil Keggle Question

Hello, I have a keggle and used brass as my pickup tube. I have read other posts where guys have accounted for trub loss in their brew to get to 5 gallons. I can only assume that this is after they have either used an immersion chiller or a plate chiller and allowed it to settle. So… :?:

  1. How much trub do you get with a 5 gallon batch of about 10-12#'s of grain using hole hops?
  2. Do you have your pickup tube pointing straight down or at an angle to not suck trub?
  3. If your tube is straight down, how close to the bottom of the keggle/kettle?
  4. Do you even try to omit the trub or just get into primary asafp to prevent contamination(thats
    what I do.)

With whole hops you should have a false bottom then keep your tube about a inch above the bottom.

Since the tube will be in the center of the keggle it will be straight down.

I use a hop bag, the nylon reusable one.
