Boil gravity

I’m new to home brewing and I understand original gravity and final gravity. Lately I’ve heard about boil gravity. What is it, and, as a new brewer, should I be measuring it?

I would assume it is the gravity of wort pre-boil. If it is I don’t worry about it.

I think you are referencing “pre boil” gravity like lytnin said.

With extract brewing, pre fermentation gravities are not very important. The kits are designed to give you X.xxx OG. As long as you add all the extract and have the correct volume you will have the stated gravity.

Making All Grain or Partial Mash beer, you want to know that you are starting with the right sugar content.

It doesn’t hurt to do them with extracts. It will give you something to taste.
