Beginner Question: Refrigeration?

So I just got my equipment and two extract kits and I am looking forward to brewing my first batch (Irish Red) on Sunday.

But I can’t seem to find the answer to these questions:

  1. Do I need to refrigerate the dry yeast? I orderd the Safale US-05 Ale Yeast for the Cream Ale kit and got the Nottingham Yeast for the Irish Red. It is currently in my basement (55F).

  2. Do I need to refrigerate the hops? Malt Extract?

Thanks!

Basically, dry yeast should be refrigerated and hops should be stored as cold as possible, including freezing. Both should be kept away from air as much as possible.

I always freeze my hops, fridge the yeast (dry or liquid) and as long as I’m brewing soon keep grain or extract at room temp (not a hot and humid garage or something).

Welcome to the wonderful world of brewing!!

Thanks guys!

Interesting. I didn’t know you should keep the hops cold.
Good to know.
