Batch Size Question

Beermates,
Just wondering why the NB brewing instructions call for a 5 gallon batch, and other sites I see call for a 5.25 gallon batch (like at yeastcalc.com)? Why would there be a difference? Sorry for the dumb question!
Chet

There are inevitable volume losses in the brewing process, especially during transfers, so starting off with a little more than your final goal is a good thing.

A lot of recipes are designed for 5.5gal just so you are sure to get 5gal in your keg. It really doesn’t matter though. I’d almost rather have a less than full keg than I would have to throw away a pint of beer that wouldn’t fit. But I 'm pretty cheap when it comes to these things.

Tom/Shade,
Gotcha! Thanks. I’ve marked my primary at about 5.25. I was a little scared because I didn’t want my beer to be too thin. Starting at 5.25 seemed to fill up my keg well (without losing that last pint!).
