Hi: I am planning on brewing a Turmoil clone this weekend and was going to use the BYO clone recipe and was doing some research and found another clone recipe in Zymurgy that were quite different in the amount of carafa used and hop schedule. For a 5 gallon batch BYO’s calls for 18oz carafa II AND 18 oz debittered carafa II while the Zymurgy 5.5 gal.clone had only 1.1 pound carafa special II. Otherwise the grain bills are very similar. When I plugged in the grain bill for the BYO recipe into promash I came up with 1.084 OG but the recipe stated it should only be 1.070??? WTF? Has anybody out there brewed either of these and could lend some insight. Twice the amount of Carafa seems like quite a difference to me.
