Anyone make extract root beer need advice

The wife wants me to make some root beer so I’m game. Anyone have suggestions for brand of extract. I have seen that some use other ingredients besides whats in the directions how much does this improve the soda. I also will be force carbing so I imagine I will need to increase the liquid line to accommodate the higher co2 pressures. any advice out there?

I highly recommend the Specher extract.

I like this one.

I have used the cheap Ozark brand extract (the kind everyone sells with the wood grain on the box) but heat it up to ~150-180 F and steep some licorice root, wintergreen, and sarparilla for an hour or so to put some additional interesting flavor into in. I’ve replaced some of sugar with either jaggery or honey or both. I’ll add a tiny amount of acid blend to give it some additional bite and some malt-dextine for mouthfeel. I’ve kegged it with a standard corny without issue.

has anyone tried the rainbow homebrew or gnome brands? And if so what did you think?

The Gnome isn’t bad if you can get it strong enough. You will need at least one pack per 5 gal and you still might feel its a bit on the weak end.
