Adjusting your batch size with whole hops

I don’t know why, I guess I was bored with pellet hops, but I grabbed a few ounces of whole hops for a Red Rye recipe of mine and I undershot my 5 gallon batch size without thinking of how much wort the whole hops would absorb.

Does anyone have a general rule of thumb on how much to increase your batch size to account for this? How much can a ounce absorb?

I use 6 oz. of absorption for 1 oz. of whole hops and it seems pretty close.

To be clear…6 fluid oz. for each 1oz. of hop weight, right?

Yep.

So you adjust for a 1% change in output wort volume…
Man, you guys are much more precise than me! I’m happy +/- a quart!
