I’m planning on adding a ball valve to my boil kettle for use with my new pump and immersion chilller with recirculation arm. I was wondering, do I just put the valve in, or should I have a screen or bent pipe attached?
You talking about a pick-up tube?
I guess. I hear about things clogging with hop matter, and it seems that just having a hole on the side of the kettle, a couple inches up would draw whatever break and trub is present.
Don’t fear the trub. Yeast like to make babies in it.
Post a pic of your set-up.
I prefer a pickup tube and whirlpooling.
FWIW if you are looking for other accessories I highly recommend QC’s.

+1 on the QC. I use camlocks. Love them. Just have to remember to remove gaskets when cleaning.
