A Coniferous Concoction "Wooly"

All,

Just had a ESB “Wooly” from Magic Hat last night really took a liking to it. Anyone have an All-Grain Clone or something similar to work off of? Has Spruce Wood infusion which adds a nice earthy taste. I have read some of the reviews on line some like a lot don’t…I think I like it b/c its different.

Let me know if anyone has attempted!

I’d simply find a decent recipe for an ESB (check NB’s recipe) and add some spruce tips which you can buy (probably from NB).

Just looked, NB sells a spruce essence that would serve the purpose.

Thanks Tom…I looked at the reviews…seems its over kill anyone have any exp with the spruce essence?

Maybe the problem is that too many people are dumping the whole bottle in…read some other online info seems that you only need about 2 tablespoons for 5 gallon batches…again anyone try this?

I too recently tasted that beer, and would like to reproduce it. Let me know how you progress with this one.

I’d brew the beer and then add essence to taste. Seems the reviews of the Magic Hat beer weree all over the place, some said they couldn’t taste spruce and some said it was over the top. By blending to taste you can make it where you want it. I might even add to a gallon or two in case you overshoot and need to dilute it.

my buddy is a huge BrewHead…he has a recipe that he uses pine nuts in that gives the beer a nice piney flavor
