lawnmower beer

Does anyone have a good extract recipe for a light, refreshing, easy to drink lawnmower beer? I want something to bring to a bar-b-que to wean people off of crap like miller.
Primary: Brick and Mortar Porter, WTF Pale Ale, Cherry Poppin' Blondie
Bottles: Monkey Dunkleweisen, NB Pattersbier, Irish Red-headed Step Child

NB Cream Ale did the trick for me. I filled a cooler with Miller Lite and Ultra Amber along with my Cream Ale. Everyone wanted to try the Cream Ale and once they did, they wanted nothing else.

Of course, it's conceivable they were just being nice. :lol:

Extract or All-grain? (edit: missed that you said extract) Do you have temperature control?

I made a great all-grain kolsch last summer that went over well with my flag football team (I even got a, "tastes better than bud").

try this one...

5 lbs light malt extract (liquid)
3 lbs wheat malt extract (dry 60% wheat/40% 2-row)

1 oz Tettnanger (60 min.)
0.5 oz Tettnanger (15 min.)

US-05 ferment in low to mid 60's

Shoot for 5.5 gallons in the primary so when you transfer to keg or bottle you should get at least 5 gallons. I just brewed this one and am adding watermelon extract when I bottle it. It's my "4th of July Celebration Ale".

I recommend NBs' Belgian Wit. I also second the Kolsch suggestion if you have temp control and time to let it lager.

I was actually going to brew the Kolsch instead of the Cream Ale, but I was worried I wasn't going to be able to control fermentation temps.

6 lb Wheat Malt Extract (DME)
1 oz Sterling 6% AA @ 60 minutes
1 lb Pure Spun Clove Honey @ 1 min
Wyeast 1010 American Wheat Yeast

And, if I do say so myself. It's light, crisp and a hell of an easy beer to drink for a BBQ/chilling on the patio with friends.

The cream ale looks intriguing. Otherwise everyone seems to agree that wheat beers work well too.

I Like Von KromDom's recipe... very simple...

I was thinking of using the california common lager yeast in attempt to make a very clean tasting beer without resorting to lagering temps. I can maintain 65F but thats about the best I can do.

Yup, my house wheat is basically that, some 2-row, some wheat and some tetteneger. Always turns out fantastic (brewed it 4x) for the light beer drinkers.

Apologies for resuscitating a dead thread, but I brewed VaBrewer's honey wheat and just wanted to say that this is a damn fine beer for drinking on these 97 degree days we're getting down here in Austin right now.

Here is one I really like, you steep 1 lb. grain for color and added flavor.... just need a steeping bag. All my bud drinking friends liked it.

Creamy English Ale (style English Brown) - 5 gal

6 lbs. Light DME
1 lb. Amber DME
8 oz. Brown sugar
1 lb. British Crystal 40L... steep 15 min. 170°, drain and add to boil.
1 oz Northern Brewer 60 min.
1 oz Kent Golding and Irish Moss 15 min.
Wyeast 1028.

Bottled with 1 1/4 Light DME

OG 1.061
FG 1.017
ABV 5.75
Color 15 HCU - 10 SRM

Lawnmower beer - I have the recipe to end all recipes - not quite a Pale Ale - not quite an Extra Special Bitter - comes in at 1.053 and ends at 1.008 - uses Flaked Maize and Flaked Barley in the recipe - and a goodly amount of hops... seriously, just a spectacular ale! You have to like delicious, dry ale though - mouth puckering ale - yum!

I'll have 13 of those ales please!!!

Guys like Denny would use this grain bill and SG as a yeast starter though... :-)
