lets go craftsmen, what do you do at work

Postby brians1554 on Tue Nov 03, 2009 9:39 pm

I know a lot of us work with our hands. We all are very proud of what we do, so lets show it off. If your anything like me, you don't get to very often so here's your chance. I make cabinets for private jets. Very high end, and the aircraft I am currently working on are Air Force One, The E4B's that fly with AF1, they are the communication jets for the president (sorry can't talk anymore about them,) and my main cabinet, the Embraer Lineage 1000. They are a Brazilian company and the aircraft is about the size of a Boeing 737. Iam very proud of my work and all I can show you is stock photos of the aircraft due to company policies, but I have been told that the pics I was given do have some of the work I did.

Holy cow! I gotta grow my company a little bit . . .

What, appraisers can have corporate jets too, can't they?

Hey, anyone can have one if they work hard enough, so i'm told, but the Embraer CABINETS cost about as much as a cessna citation 10 does, so I guess we all have to work harder.

I would love to see pics of that, most try to love their work, but that has to be fun

I design, build and install architectural metal work. Railings, gates, stairs and what not.

I love it.

Art = work.

Art is a fat guy in a dirty terry cloth rope.

Spider gate looks great.

Im working on a real ornamental fence now that has spiders on it.

I love uni. I could crack those urchins open and suck them right down.

You catching and selling them your self?

I have been diving for urchins since 1986 on my boat out of Santa Barbara...
We sell thru a middle man... There is about 10 urchin processing companies...
I think we had our lowest prices in a decade this year...not a happy time...
At 50 i'm looking for something new to do in a new town...Maybe N. Cal...

I debated if I should post this, it's not craftsmanship but lots of planning goes into a successful job. I demolish things. It's not as cool as the stuff you guys create but destruction is part of creation right?

That's a 8" double reinforced slab cracking like styrofoam. NYC transit work is the most challanging construction work there is.

The company has also worked on the WTC taking down the bathtub, it is the biggest selective demolition job in history. No hyperbole, just lots of work.

Forgive the self praise, I just get into my work.

Hey, one of the coolest things about my job is the stress test. We make a cabinet we thing is going into a plane and someone comes up and tells us to drill holes here and there after it is done. They hook a machine to it and see how many psi it takes to destroy the damn thing. It's kinda cool to see the thing that made your life a pita for the last week or 2 crushed like a bug. Destruction is an art.

A big ole' chuck of metal I cut, bent, and welded.

If you'll all notice, I'm not smiling in the pic. This proves the seriousness of this post. Please do not delete it.
