Brewers Gold

by Legman » Fri Nov 06, 2009 7:02 pm

I've been trying Brewers Gold hops in some of my Browns, Porters and Stouts. I don't have much experience with this hop yet, but I seem to be getting a bit of (citrus-like?) flavor from it even thought I just use it as a bittering hop.

Anyone else experience this? How would you describe this hop?

How long is your boil, and are you using pellets, plugs, or whole leaf?

As my first choice hop, I use BG a lot (when I can get it) for both bittering and aroma but have never gotten a citrus character from it.

Citrus? Not really to my senses. BG finds its' way into several of my beers specifically for the non-citrus dark fruit and black currant flavors it brings along.

Ok, maybe citrus would be the wrong word for this. I didn't mean like cascade flavor.
Let me ask this again. If using BG (pellets) as a bittering hop (60-90 min), do you ever notice any flavors from it?
