yeast questions....

I recently brewed a 5 gallon batch of cherry vanilla cream ale. I decided too add 1/2 teaspoon tothe wort with 15 minutes left in the boil because I thought I remembered reading that that was the proper application.
Further instigation reveals that some people use it, and some don’t…some use it in starters and the boil. some use it only when the o.g. is high (mine is 1.045, not to high).
Can someone please tell me what the proper application is!? I’m confused as hell!

Something is kind of missing from your question.

Is your question about yeast NUTRIENT? You make no reference to that in your post

 , haha, yes, I’m referring to yeast nutrient, sorry about that.

I use yeast nutrients, cheap insurance I guess. I do forget to add then from time to time and I still made good beer. So who knows…Kinda like forgetting irish moss and still getting clear beer.

When and how much do you add?

A pinch in starters and 1/2 tsp. in the last 10 min. of the boil.

Thanks, is that a half teaspoon per 5 gallons?

Yep. I use the Wyeast nutrient and the bottle specifies that amount for the last ten min. of the boil.
