starter question

I am building up a starter of dry lager yeast I had on hand. I have added 1 pint water boiled with 1/2 cup dme and 1/4 tsp nutrient twice now. I am boiling the third addition now. Should I pour off the fermented wort before adding the next addition? Should I refrigerate the starter to settle out the yeast before each addition? Thanks

Why not make a 1.5 quart starter? Or just buy a 2nd packet? Easier to do.

Yes

Should I refrigerate the starter to settle out the yeast before each addition?

Yes

Thanks[/quote]

I thought you shouldn’t make starters from dry yeast? I only use liquid so I don’t know, but that’s what I’ve read. And dry yeast is cheap… why not just buy another pack? All that building up with DME, the time spent, etc… seems like it’s costing you more to make your starters than to just go buy another pack.

Yeah not a good idea to make a yeast starter with dry yeast. I would do just like everyone else said and get another pack of dry yeast.
