With my bare bones BIAB setup, plunking in 12 or 15 or 18 pounds of room temp grain* drops the temp like a rock, thus the higher strike temp…and the software fairly accurately predicts where it will settle out, say 151*(a typical mid range mash temp)…at which point I bury it under a slew of blankets and a sleeping bag for an hour.

*and of course stirring like mad! Also breaks up doughballs(good for catfish or carp fishing, not good for brewing)

I enjoy this method better than having the 3 tier system I used for quite a while… years ago…
