Making my first batch and just finished my primary fermentation and ready to transfer to carboy. The directions with my kit did not mention if I should remove additives. Currently I have oak and grape skins (in mesh bags) They have been in primary fermenter for 8 days. Should I transfer them to the carboy also or discard?
Unless it specifies in the instructions, discard the stuff. Some kits want you to more-or-less transfer everything over, but they’re in the minority, and the rest of the kits want you to leave the skins and oak behind while transferring over all of the liquid that will flow down the racking tube–leave the thick goo behind.
Which kit is it? There might be additional instructions on the internet that we can reference to double-check.
