priming sugar

Has anybody tried brown sugar as a priming sugar? If so how much should be used for a five gallon batch?

I have used brown Sugar, Sorghum, and molasses In some of my darker aged beers. people here will tell you that it is such a small quantity that it really doesn’t add anything to the flavor profile, but on the other hand it will not hurt your beer. I use the Priming calculator provided by our hosts and my only addition is make sure that your bottling volume and temp. are accurate.

brown sugar is a mix of sugar and molasses. If you want to increase the likelihood of actually being able to taste a difference, I’d go all out and use molasses, preferably black strap which has a stronger flavor.
