Megalodon Imperial Red Ale Ingredients

I brewed the Megalodon Imperial Red Ale yesterday and this is the first (of many) time the ingredients (fermentable extracts) did not match the recipe.

Recipe called for:

  • 6.0 lbs Gold LME (60 min)
  • 6.0 lbs Munich LME (15 min)
  • 1.5 lbs Corn Sugar (0 min)

What I got was

  • 6.0 lbs Gold LME (60 min)
  • 3.15 lbs Gold LME (15 min)
  • 3.0 lbs Corn Sugar (0 min) (2x bags)

I went ahead and just added the 3.15 Gold at 15 minutes instead of the Munich and then added the 3.0 of Corn Sugar at 0 minutes instead of the 1.5.

My OG came out about 1.080 (instead of 1.090).

Does this seem reasonable? I am sure I will drink it anyway but was just curious what the thought of others were.

I checked the reviews for this beer. No one mentioned being sent different ingredients than listed in the recipe. This is worth a call to NB to ask whether this was a legitimate recipe change or was an error in packaging. NB still has their no questions asked replacement guarantee.

It’s already in the fermenter, so let me see how it tastes first.

I would still inquire as if it was a screw-up they will likely replace the kit. I bought a smoked extract lot of theirs many years ago that they must have forgot the smoked malt. They sent me a new kit.
