Got a good start with an avocado tree

Considering my current circumstances (long story and I don’t want to bore anybody), I figured I’d better get used to having growing things not too far from where I sleep. So I started growing an avocado tree in a pot after making guacamole out of the original avocado. I’m curious about two things:

  1. How do I know when the pot has gotten too small for the tree?
  2. Does anybody have any tips for transplanting trees when the time comes?

I’ve heard that although you can grow avocados from the pit, you shouldn’t expect it to fruit. Apparently they’re sterile. I haven’t confirmed this though; you may want to do some research on it.

It’s also lots of fun to grow pineapples. I like this guy’s
