Dry Hop General Question

Trying my first dry hop. Planning to dry hop in second fermentation for 7 days, then cold crash for an additional 7 days. Ok plan or have different thoughts? Thanks

A seven day dry hop sounds reasonable. Are you using whole hops or pellet hops? If you are planning to bag the hops make sure the bag is large enough to let the hops expand. Bags can be weighted to keep them below the surface of the beer. This eliminates contact with the air where bacteria can use the bag as a growth platform.

I dry hop in the primary with pellets rather than using a secondary vessel… I wait until almost all of the CO2 has off gassed to prevent aroma scrubbing. This takes the dry hop to about day 15 to 18 after active fermentation had begun. I don’t cold crash, but do have a small fine mesh bag over the end of the siphon tube in the bottling bucket. A few small pieces of hop debris does make it through the siphon.
