Do I need a carboy

I have only brewed beer, but want to take a stab at mead. I don’t have a carboy because I ferment in plastic buckets. Do I need a glass vessel? Is it necessary to transfer to secondary? I do not transfer to secondary for my beer. So, I am a mead newbie looking for guidance.

yes to age the mead transfer it to a alloy me thinking the same want to do one for xmas
but what i did read actually fermenting at least 3 months glass gives beter taste beer wise and mead
