Colonial Pegged or Sewed Pie?

Found this reference a few times when reading older newspapers ad sections, but I get no description what it is. Does anyone know what this food is and how it’s made.? It may be a pastry meal going by another name today. One reference was that the writer would know at a glance if a pegged pie had cat or dog in it. There is also available at antique stores “pegged pie safes”. I wonder what the difference is between sewed and pegged.

I get the sense it was not a high class food but mostly for the common people of the 17th century.

Thanks.
